COMMON HOME

100 YEARS OF NATIONAL PARKS

Centro Cultural La Moneda and The Pew Charitable Trusts present Common Home: 100 Years of National Parks, an exhibition commemorating the centennial of the establishment of Chile’s first national park. The exhibition explores a century of nature conservation in the country, highlighting protected areas as part of Chile’s environmental, cultural, and social heritage.

Curated by Catalina Ossa Holmgren, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the diversity of ecosystems found across Chile, tracing the evolution of conservation policies and initiatives over the past century. Through a timeline, a map of Chile’s protected areas, graphic displays, and an immersive audiovisual experience, visitors will discover how these areas safeguard ecological processes essential to biodiversity, climate stability, and the well-being of communities.

A central feature of the exhibition is BREATHE: Dialogue with Nature, by artists Denise Lira Ratinoff and Patricio Aguilar Díaz. This audiovisual symphony invites visitors to experience nature through contemplation, listening, and sensory awareness, incorporating footage from the Valdivian Coastal Reserve and other natural landscapes across Chile.

The exhibition is supported by the National Forestry Corporation (CONAF) of the Ministry of Agriculture; the Biodiversity and Protected Areas Service of the Ministry of the Environment; and Universidad Austral de Chile, through its Austral Patagonia Program.
