About the curator
- Hernán Garfias Arze studied graphic design at Universidad Católica de Valparaíso and is founder of AG&P asociados, founding partner and president of Asociación de Empresas de Diseño QVID, creator of Diseño magazine and is part of Consejo de la Corporación Antenna. In his prolific career, he has served as art director of El Mercurio newspaper and was art director of Patricio Aylwin’s presidential campaign. In academic terms, Garfias fulfilled the important task of founding Facultad Arquitectura, Arte y Diseño of Universidad Diego Portales, of which he served as dean. He also directed Escuela de Diseño, Arte y Comunicación of Instituto Profesional AIEP. He is currently a tenured professor at Universidad del Desarrollo. In relation to the dissemination of design, Garfias has worked as a curator of exhibitions in Chile and abroad, showcasing his curatorship for the Chilean Pavilion in Milan (2011-2014). In addition to founding Galería del Diseño del Centro Cultural La Moneda in 2008, he has written more than 300 articles on design, art and architecture and has given conferences in more than 40 countries. In recognition for his work, he has been honoured the Sello Excelencia Diseño of the Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes de Chile (CNCA) award, the Premio Pericles CAYC award (Centro de Arte y Comunicación, Argentina), the Premio Bienal de Quito award, the Premio Amster-Coré award, the Premio Asociación Internacional Críticos de Arte award, the Premio Colegio de Diseñadores de Chile award, the Premio Colegio de Diseño award, and the Order of the Star of Italy awarded by the Italian Republic.
Curatorial assistant
- Shlomit Farias (Santiago, 1997) is a self-taught digital illustrator and entrepreneur. She studied graphic design at Universidad del Desarrollo and has developed her professional career towards teaching, serving as an assistant teacher from 2021 to the present. In 2017, she completed an academic exchange at L’école de Design Nantes Atlantique that allowed her to broaden her view of design and, in 2023, she completed the University Teaching Diploma at the same university.
