Cinema in Chile

History(ies) in Motion

The Centro Cultural La Moneda and the Cineteca Nacional de Chile (Chilean National Film Archive) present Cinema in Chile. History(ies) in Motion, an unprecedented exhibition that traces more than a century of film history in the country, foregrounding the deep connection between this cultural practice and Chile’s social, political, and cultural life.

This major exhibition is part of the 20th anniversary celebrations of both institutions, reaffirming their commitment to memory, heritage, and audiovisual culture.

The exhibition unfolds chronologically, from the arrival of the cinematograph to contemporary productions shown in Chile. It addresses not only film creation, but also its circulation, exhibition, preservation, and reception.

The exhibition journey highlights continuities, transformations, and tensions that have shaped the relationship between cinema and Chilean society, bringing together materials from public and private collections, both national and international.

Cinema in Chile. History(ies) in Motion has been made possible through the collaboration of numerous public and private institutions, whose generous contributions of materials and expertise have enabled the creation of a broad, diverse, and collective narrative of film history in Chile.

Acknowledgements

The realization of Cinema in Chile. History(ies) in Motion has been made possible thanks to the generous collaboration of numerous public and private institutions, both in Chile and abroad, which have contributed archives, collections, works, and essential knowledge.

Without their support and commitment to the preservation and dissemination of audiovisual heritage, this exhibition would not have been possible.
