This exhibition accounts for the Chilean representatives at this fair, and presents lamps, furniture, weavings, ceramics, containers and ornamental objects that reflect the progress and renovations experienced by local design. The show’s narrative presents the actions of the productive process, such as folding, moulding, weaving, carving and assembling. Experimentation with noble and native materials is then discovered, including rural and indigenous communities in some cases, in a process of co-creation; recycling; the honouring of craftwork and traditional crafts; and the possibility of training and providing employment for interns from a Chilean prison.
Apart from giving an account of Chilean representatives at WantedDesign 2018, the exhibition is a reflection of how Chilean presence at international events has strengthened during the past few years, through the inter-institutional work of the public sector, showing what is being produced in diverse platforms, and how this discipline has been renewed in our country, from aspects such as material richness, aesthetic interest and the utility value of objects; as well as qualitative factors that signal work with communities, identity exploration, and socio-environmental commitment, among other factors.
The exhibition counts with the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage, the Cultural Affairs Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Relationships in Chile, and ProChile.
