The southmost farming territory of Chile is the protagonist of the exhibition that is displayed in the Heritage Gallery. The exhibition strives to give visibility to experiences of self-management and autonomy in different territorial sites of the Magallanes and Tierra del Fuego region, bringing to the present their cultures, memories, issues and subsistance challenges.
The exhibition arises from the collaborative research between the Museo de Historia Natural Río Seco (MHNRS) and the Museo Campesino en Movimiento (MUCAM) museums. It addresses the linkage between the inhabitants of southern rural sites to the natural resources provided by their rugged and wild geography.
The exhibition is made up of elements particularly sought for and produced for the instance: objects related to work tasks, local routines and traditional festivities, as well as vestiges that give an account of the southmost agrarian and livestock culture, such as lengths of wire fencing, yoke of oxen, a stock rattle to herd sheep and even a a pair of horseman boots made with the leather of the ankle of a horse, a garment widely used for taming and horse riding shows, traditions that are part of the experiential-historical recovery that characterizes this exhibition.
