This exhibition presents projects of relevance for contemporary Chilean architecture, such as the Pereira Palace reconstruction in central Santiago, and buildings that inhabit nature, located in the Atacama Desert and Torres del Paine, captured by the lens of 15 foreign and Chilean photographers.
The photographs from Winter: Images of Contemporary Chilean Architecture portray the construction and restoration processes of the architectural works presented. At the same time, these images are accompanied by small screens containing audio-visual fragments, with registers of the architectural processes. These footages seek to provide even more understanding of each of the architectural works. The audio-visual fragments anticipate the documentary titled Under the Winter Light, filmed by José Luis Torres Leiva, still a work in progress.
The exhibition presents works by Ricardo Abuauad, Alejandro Aravena for Elemental, Renzo Alvano, Miguel Cassasus, Eduardo Castillo, Francisco Cepeda, Tomás Cortese, Emilio de la Cerda, Germán del Sol, Jonathan Holmes, Andrés Iacobelli, Sebastián Irarrázaval, Luis Izquierdo, Mathias Klotz, Martin Labbé, Antonia Lehmann, Raimundo Lira, Gabriela Medrano, Alberto Moletto, Teresa Moller, Alfonso Montero, José Domingo Peñafiel, Carolina Portugueis, Cecilia Puga, Smiljan Radic, Osvaldo Spichiger, Álvaro Ramírez, Pablo Riquelme, Paula Velasco and Cazú Zegers. The architects of Pezo von Ellrichshausen office participate in this exhibition as architects and also as photographers.
Chilean photographers Aryeh Kornfeld, Cristóbal Palma, Felipe Fontecilla, Guy Wenborne and Ignacio Acosta are part of the exhibition. From abroad, the exhibition includes Xavier Ribas, David Bestué, Bleda y Rosa photography studio, Erieta Attali, Iwan Baan, Leonardo Finotti, Roland Halbe, Stefano Graziani and Louise Oates.
The exhibition is part of a contemporary Chilean architecture dissemination project from the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage. The images displayed are a glimpse into some of the works that have contributed to national and international recognition of Chilean architecture during the last few years. Architecture is presented in this exhibition through photographic and audio-visual record, thus, revealing its cultural value, as well as its impact on landscapes, cities and territories, and consequently, on people’s quality of life.
